Installing CTF Themes using Cxmb 3.1 on 3.90 M33

Cxmb is back and better than ever!

The no-flashing theme plugin is back with a vengeance! Now, cxmb is fully integrated into the 3.90 menu. You can select your custom firmware themes directly from the themes menu! Uses ctf files to store and load custom firmware themes (previously only available on 3.90 through flashing) from the memory card. Note: Ctf files can only be used on custom firmware with the cxmb plugin.

You Will Need

  • Cxmb 3.1 plugin - download - release thread
  • 3.90 CTF Themes - See the post below for links to a large pack to a large pack of themes.

    Installing Cxmb 3.1

    1. Download the cxmb install files and the themes you want to use.
    2. From the Cxmb files, copy the "cxmb" folder from the CXMB_LITE directory to the root of your memory card (that's P:\ where P is the letter drive of your PSP).
    3. On a new line, add "ms0:/cxmb/cxmb.prx" (without quotations) to the vsh.txt text file in your P:\seplugins directory. Create the file and the directory if you need to.
    4. From the theme pack, copy the theme files (*.ctf) to your P:\PSP\THEME directory. You should probably remove any ptf themes you had stored there first.
    5. Restart the PSP, entering Recovery Mode (hold R trigger during power on) and enable the cxmb plugin in the plugins menu.
    6. Uninstall any custom theme installed to the flash0 (reflash the original files - you did make a backup, right?).
    7. Start the PSP normally, the xmb should look normal, aka stock.
    8. In the themes menu, select your custom firmware theme! The PSP will reboot after you make your selection and the newly selected theme will be visible when the xmb restarts.
    9. If the background appears white after the reboot, go to the themes menu and under Color select the correct background. It may be necessary to reset again after this.

Update to the CTF theme pack

Postby transce080 on Fri Mar 21, 2008 6:28 am

Updated CTF theme pack. 81 themes with screenshots for all themes. All credit goes to the people who made and/or converted these themes. Thank you.

  • Part 1 (link removed)
  • Part 2 (link removed)

Legend
format: filename~.ctf
~(bg) - theme contains a regular background image (without xmb wave enabled)
~(bgw) - theme contains a background image with xmb wave enabled
~(gb) - theme contains a gameboot

ex. P360 - Halo (bg-gb).ctf <- this theme contains a regular background image and a gameboot

Note: I haven't gotten very far in noting which themes have gameboots, yet.

Update #3 to the CTF theme pack

Postby transce080 on Wed Apr 02, 2008 7:03 pm

Just updated the CTF theme pack collection again. Up to 97 themes now. This update boasts more themes and still contains screenshots for all themes. If you downloaded Update 1 or 2, delete everything before unpacking this update. I updated several of the theme names and notations so if you don't clean the old ones up first, you will get repeats.

  • Tier 1 - high quality, more unique themes
  • Tier 2 - lesser, more mundane themes

Legend
format: filename~~.ctf
~~(bg) - theme contains a regular background image (without xmb wave enabled)
~~(bgw) - theme contains a background image with xmb wave enabled
~~(gb) - theme contains a gameboot

ex. P360 - Halo (bg-gb).ctf <- this theme contains a regular background image and a gameboot

Note: Some themes have gameboots but do not have the (gb) notation. If you test them, please let me know which ones have gameboots included, thanks. This is update #3 because the first pack posted here was update #1 to the original pack.

Just an update for 5.00m33-3 users
For CFW 5.00m33-3 ONLY. (not tested with CXMB 5.00m33-4 due to new bugs and reported problems with PRX files)
CXMB has been released for 5.00m33-3, update link here http://www.2alien.info/2008/10/cxmb_33.html.
It's pretty much the same as above to install so I'll skip that bit but the older themes WILL NOT WORK for this version of CXMB.
Themes still go in the same place as CTF themes or PTF themes so nothing new there :D
I get themes from within the psp's custom themes (not available on all themes) but I also have a hand full of links where I grab themes from :D
http://trobert94.saina-lesite.com/ for 5.00m33-3 compatible themes with previews also you can check out http://www.2alien.net/community/viewforum.php?f=10 for new or updated themes :)

hope this helps some one out :D
